CHESCO ENERGY
Enabling the Energy Transition
Meeting The Challenge
The United States is facing an unprecedented surge in electricity demand, driven by the rapid expansion of data centers supporting Artificial Intelligence, widespread electrification of vehicles and heating systems, as well as demand from new manufacturing industries. At the same time, the energy landscape is undergoing a major transition, with many thermal generation units retiring while new capacity additions are largely dominated by intermittent renewable resources such as solar and wind projects, as well as short-term storage solutions based on battery energy storage systems.
PJM Interconnection (PJM), one of the largest Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO), provides an excellent case study. PJM predicts that 40 GW of its existing supply, largely thermal based generation, will retire by 2030. The PJM Long Term Growth Forecast expects loads to increase by over 55 GW by 2035. Finally, PJM’s reliability study assumes a major contribution from off shore wind projects in New Jersey, an uncertain resource given the current administration’s lack of support for these projects. Within just one RTO these factors combine to demonstrate a clear and substantial need for new generation resources.
Recognizing the urgent need for a balanced and reliable power grid, Chesco Energy was founded by industry veterans with deep expertise in traditional thermal power project development. Our evolving power market requires fast start, dispatchable power plants that are able to produce regardless of weather conditions. Chesco Energy is developing projects at multiple sites in the MidAtlantic Region to meet this growing need for new power generation.
